In 1937, at just two years old, Harry was diagnosed with bovine tuberculosis and taken from his parents. He was confined to an isolation hospital in Sheffield where he experienced sensory deprivation, emotional neglect and other traumas.
In this book, his daughter – author and qualified counsellor Helen Parker-Drabble – uses Harry’s own words to expose the shocking inadequacies of public health and healthcare in mid-twentieth century Britain.
Drinking unpasteurised milk, contaminated with bovine tuberculosis from infected cows, devastated the lives of Harry and tens of thousands of other children. They endured childhoods of harsh treatment, resulting in physical disabilities and profound psychological damage.
